He extends his grace into my relationships and his faithfulness bleeds into my life plans.Read Our Rules | Frequently Asked Questions! | OOTL Primer | Discord In these moments I am made new to be a little more like Jesus and appreciate his death on the cross a little more too. I am consistently reminded of my inability to do good on my own. But God is inherently good through the blissful and the bleak times. ![]() The richness of God’s plan for my Spring 2019 was so much greater than anything I could have imagined for myself, and I learned yet again that His wisdom always will outdo the world’s (and mine).Īll of this to say, the world is tough. This divide of reactions caused a lot of fear in me – am I making a mistake investing so much time into this? Only I will ever know the depth of gifts that working at Friends gave to me: new relationships with loving, diverse people, confidence leading and teaching material that I wrote for others, an outlet for serving, an influx of joy each time I arrived, challenges I would never run across in my typical scene, and so much more. The internship was not as sexy in their eyes. To be frank though, not everyone around me was as thrilled with this decision as I was. So when the opportunity to be a Youth Programs Intern arose I leaped at the opportunity. When God led me to the organization Friends of Refugees through prayer, the one thing I knew is that His hand was involved. See – how beautiful!Īnother thing that God will continue to teach me over and over in my life is that His wisdom is greater than the world’s. It provides an opportunity for graceful communication to occur which leads to a fuller understanding of the other person involved. Friction is indeed a beautiful thing – it causes you to dig deeper and grow closer. I have learned that consistently sweeping my emotions “under the rug” is actually counterproductive to my goal of strengthening my relationships with loved ones. Especially friction with those closest to me. Sure you may be annoyed, but a little annoyance is better than an awkward, tough conversation right? These past few months, God has been teaching me the underlying beauty of friction in relationships. Fully understanding those aspects of another person and then relating those with your own thoughts is a FEAT if I ever saw one. Any two people in this world have vastly different experiences, beliefs, values, opinions, goals, and expectations. Friction with other people is challenging. Trying to fight this would be futile – it simply will happen. We do not always treat each other perfectly. No matter how top-notch people are in my life, I always find myself at a cross roads with them. I am going to share two more lessons I learned (or relearned) this last semester because, as I said when I started this blog, I believe every story is worth sharing. One of those things is the reality of the constant presence of joy when you are in a relationship with Jesus, as I wrote about in my post a few months back. I learned so much about myself, God, relationships, and life that I did not anticipate. God was so sweet, so purposeful in my life – for absolutely no reason. Sophomore year was a year I never could have expected.
